NorCal Premier alternate field set-up option In the past, there have been issues with spectators which have caused games to be paused. Comments from the spectator line can be addressed through the coaches, but it can be difficult for the coaches to control their spectators from the opposite side of the field and it can be difficult to identify which team a particular spectator is associated with.
To help address this, NorCal Premier has offered an alternate field set-up option which places the teams and their spectators on the same side of the field, with the opponent doing the same on the opposite side of the field.
Here is a diagram...

In this format, there are important things for the referee crew to be aware of:
- Managing this set-up is not your reponsibility, it is the home teams responsibility (coaches, managers)
- Any pre-game meeting with coaches (sportsmanship) or players (the coin toss) should be held in the center circle.
- The CR needs to be aware of the potential for substitutions on both sides of the field
- Both ARs will have substitution responsibilitiies and should mirror each other when necessary
- ARs will be positioned in front of the technical areas, NOT in front of spectators
- The subsitution area should be free of spectators
- The game must stay on time
- In the event the home team cannot persuade their opponent to organize the technical and spectator areas fifteen minutes prior to the start of the game or if there are spectators in the technical or substitution areas, the referee can stop the game, let the clock run and ask the home team to revert to the default 'traditional' set-up with both technical areas on one side and all spectators on the other.
