What are the Infringement Abbreviations?Printable

The Laws of the Game, specifically Law 12, detail seven reasons that a Player can be sent off (shown the red card). Those reasons are:

  • FOAL - uses offensive or insulting or abusive language and/or gestures
  • VC - is guilty of violent conduct
  • SFP - is guilty of serious foul play
  • SPIT - spits at an opponent or any other person
  • DGSF - denies an obvious goal scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick
  • DGSH - denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal socring opportunity by deliberately handling he ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
  • 2CT - receives a second caution in the same match

A Coach or other team official can be expelled from the field of play and its immediate area. Any individual on the team side of the field is considered a team official and are held to the same standards of conduct. The referee is required to take action against team officials who fail to conduct themselves in a responsible manner.
