Administrative

  1. These matches are unaffiliated with USSF. Therefor USSF insurance is NOT in effect.
  2. The object of this league is FUN. No player checkin.  Teams to wear league issued t-shirts.  No shirt?  Any shirt of a close color permitted.
  3. Shin guards recommended - not required.
  4. Referee decisions are final.
  5. Note in Match report if a team lodges a protest.
  6. Good sportsmanship is expected.   Poor sportsmanship is harshly punished by the league.

8 v 8 Leagues (San Francisco)

  1. Games will be 8v8 with a goalkeeper.  At least 2 women (can use 8 women).
  2. Can play short handed:  
    1. With 7 players must have at least 1 woman
    2. With 6 players must have at least 1 woman
    3. With 5 players must have at least 1 woman
  3. Game is forfeited if a team does not have at least 5 players at the start of the game. Game time is forfeit time.
  4. Guest players.   Teams with 5, 6 or 7 players can pick up other Zog players to reach 8.    Cannot pick up players to have subs. 
    1. Penalty of one goal per guest player.
    2. Rostered player shows up late - must replace a guest player.  Guest player can not return.  
  5. If both teams are short players, play equal short sided.   OR if captains agree, pick up equal guest players for both sides. 

7 v 7 League (Emeryville)

  1. Games will be 7v7 with a goalkeeper.  At least 2 women (can use 7 women).
  2. Can play short handed:  
    1. With 6 players must have at least 1 woman
    2. With 5 players must have at least 1 woman
    3. With 4 players must have at least 1 woman
  3. Game is forfeited if a team does not have at least 4 players at the start of the game. Game time is forfeit time.
  4. Guest players.   Teams with 4, 5 or 6 players can pick up other Zog players to reach 7.    Cannot pick up players to have subs. 
    1. Penalty of one goal per guest player.
    2. Rostered player shows up late - must replace a guest player.  Guest player can not return. 
  5. If both teams are short players, play equal short sided.   OR if captains agree, pick up equal guest players for both sides. 

Match Detail

  1. Goal/Penalty area are the same. 
  2. Penalty spot from 12 yards.
  3. Keeping the matches on time is critical. Do NOT add time for substitutions or injuries.  Do add time for deliberate time wasting (ex: kicking the ball far into touch)
  4. Each half is 24 minutes long. Halftime is 2 minutes.

Playoffs

  1. No guest players.
  2. 2 x 20 minute halves
  3. If tied at the end of regulation Golden goal/sudden death overtime
    1. 6 players - 2 women minimum
    2. One 5 minute period
  4. If tied at the end of overtime - KFTM
    1. Each team select 5 players - 2 women minimum for first 5 kickers
    2. All players present participate
    3. Team with more players may reduce to equalize

Match Play

  1. Coin flip OR odds/evens OR rock-paper-scissors to pick side or possession to start game.
  2. No offside calls.
  3. Unlimited substitutions. Substitutions can be made at any stoppage. 
  4. No slide tackles. All infractions are DFK.
  5. Dangerous play is a DFK.
  6. Restart with a DFK after stopping play to punish misconduct (YC or RC).
  7. DFK and IFK must wait for referee whistle or gesture.
  8. Passback to keeper with feet or body (not head) is an IFK taken from where the pass originated. 
  9. Opponents must be 5 yards from Corner Kicks, Free Kicks, Kick Off
  10. Goalkeeper cannot punt or drop kick the ball from their hands. Award a Corner Kick.
  11. A player receiving a caution (YC) must sit out for 4 minutes.    They may be substituted.  

Other Considerations

  • Pensra referees are being hired to help keep the league on time and organized. These are small fields with adults. Referee appropriately.
  • Parking can be difficult. Plan accordingly.

Official Rules

Referees are required to have a complete copy of the rules with them at the field.     Only captains can discuss a rule with the referee.    No judgement calls will be discussed.
